M13486 wire is a MIL-Spec wire mostly used for special-purpose machinery in the US Military.
It is a heavy-duty wire constructed for low-tension circuits. Because of its durability, the MIL-DTL-13486 is often used in aircraft, trucks, tanks, trailers, and heavy-duty vehicles. The Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) program used this wire for their tactical vehicles meant to withstand IED attacks.
The MIL-W-13486 wire is made from stranded tinned copper, making it flexible in low and high temperatures. In addition to its flexibility, this wire is also resistant to abrasion, fungus, weather, and fluids like oil, ethylene glycol, and saltwater. Since it is resistant to multiple liquids and weather, exposed applications can use this wire. This wire is available with both single and multi-conductor constructions. The insulation is made from either rubber or Hypalon (CSPE).
